Parrot

Animals aren't usually a subject from which I draw inspiration, however when looking back through photographs taken over the past few years, I came across photographs of parrots, taken at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire. I was most inspired by the way the feathers lay, and this shows in the images I have produced below.

This piece was created using coloured acrylic ink in the style that I have adapted and seem to have stuck to since university

Another technique I developed throughout my time at university was paper cut and here shows two examples of the technique, with the texture of feathers and the parrots head, which I feel looks striking due to the sharp lines and bold colour.

The piece to the left was produced using black indian ink and was inspired by the photo shown above, it came from the black markings around the eye of the parrot. However when taken out of context one may not relate to the original subject.

This is just the start of a new sketchbook that I have begun, I will be using photographs that I have taken over the past few years for inspiration and plan to cover a variety of subjects using the mediums in which I am comfortable and confident; for the most part, these will be paper cut, stitch and ink.

Thanks for reading.
